"With the release of Red Hat Linux for S/390, Red Hat is able to fully extend its reach from embedded to mainframe," said Matthew Szulik, CEO of Red Hat. "I have spent many years in the mainframe market, understanding and servicing its enterprise clients. With this announcement, Red Hat is excited to be able to offer a solution to those customers."
Utilising the same open source code base as Red Hat Linux 7.2, enterprise companies can deploy Red Hat Linux on the S/390, enabling them to take advantage of increased performance and efficient resource sharing, increased security, and platform portability, as it supports diverse hardware architectures with a common application programming interface. The same code base also allows Red Hat to cover the full spectrum of computing platforms, from small, embedded devices up to the largest mainframe computers.
