London, UK 15 September, 2011 - Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that it is collaborating on the engineering effort within Inkspot.co, providers of a high-level cloud platform and cloud application development kit, to tailor the Inkspot platform particularly for academic scientific and research organisations.
The Inkspot.co platform provides a set of secure and scalable high-level services that allow applications, with minimal change, to exploit the advantages of cloud computing. These key attributes are made possible due to the security, flexibility and scalability of JBoss.
The Inkspot.co stakeholders assessed their technology options, under the founding principles of openness and flexibility. The collaboration with Red Hat will allow the Inkspot.co platform to be tuned to run efficiently on Red Hat’s open source software, including the JBoss Application Server, a move away from the initial Glassfish-based technology stack. Running Inkspot.co on Red Hat technology permits applications to scale as required on both private and public clouds such as Amazon.
"We are collaborating with Inkspot because JBoss technology can directly support the research objectives of the project,” said Dr. Mark Little, senior director of engineering, middleware business at Red Hat. “JBoss provides Inkspot with the infrastructure on which research and development can thrive, without concerns over security or scalability. Individuals and organisations can focus on R&D without technology distractions.”
“Our mission at Inkspot is to remove the barriers to scientific collaboration and accelerate the outcome for private and public research projects,” said Joanna Berry COO of Inkspot.co. “With Red Hat’s support we can be confident that our underlying technology provides users with mandatory security and scalability as well as the flexibility to work in an environment of choice.”
